On behalf of all of our Veterans and families, we thank you for supporting New Ground’s 18th Annual Groundbreakers’ Celebration, which took place on November 8, 2018 at the Garden City Hotel. Because of your generosity, this year’s event was our most successful fundraising event to date, raising over $260,000!
It was an incredible evening filled with good friends, food and entertainment. Guests enjoyed a special performance by the Roosevelt High School Choir in recognition of our families and a Color Guard presentation by the 1st Marine Corps. District in honor of our Veterans Program.
It was out pleasure to honor Joseph Burns, Senior VP and Valley National Bank with our Groundbreakers’ Award for their ongoing commitment to our Veterans and families. We also recognized Kay McKiernan with the Máiréad M. Barrett Founder’s Award and John P. Clarke, Esq. with the Thomas Whalen Memorial Award. Both Kay and John have been longtime supporters giving of their time and expertise to benefit those we serve, ensuring all will continue to reach their goals and achieve future independence and self-sufficiency.

Currently in its 18th year, the Groundbreaker’s Celebration Gala is New Ground’s premier signature event raising substantial funds to support Veterans and families who are caught in the vicious cycle of homelessness on Long Island.
Each year, supporters, volunteers, as well as local business and community leaders gather for a truly special evening to celebrate the accomplishments of the Veterans, adults and children participating in New Ground’s program. The Groundbreakers Award is also presented to individuals who have given their time, talent and/or expertise to benefit New Ground’s vision and goals and the local community. Past honorees include NYCB Family of Banks, Farrell Fritz, PC, Thomas & Eileen Lamberti, Habitat for Humanity of Nassau County, Albanese Organization and Waldorf Risk Solutions.
The Gala features a premier Silent Auction and Raffles, filled with unforgettable experiences, such as a Mexico vacation for four, weekend getaway to Vermont, dinner for ten in your home with Chef William Holden of West End Café, golf foursomes to exclusive clubs, tickets to see your favorite sports team, and much more!
The event takes place at the Garden City Hotel and kicks off at 6:30pm with a cocktail reception, followed by an exquisite dinner and awards presentation to the honorees.
