Homeward Bound @ New Ground
The Homeward Bound @ New Ground Program assists families and veterans with “graduating” from New Ground so they can successfully secure independent housing. After achieving most of their goals, families and veterans work with their New Ground Social Worker on their final goal: a stable place to call home. These residents no longer benefit from remaining in a steeply subsidized rental unit intended for the formerly homeless. All aspects of their lives have changed and they are now capable of becoming more integrated into mainstream life. Often, they just need a final financial boost to overcome the last hurdle to living independently.
Homeward Bound @ New Ground operates from many different formulas constructed to meet the particular needs of individuals and families in unique and complex situations. This program provides monetary aid for moving expenses such as security deposits, broker’s fees, first and last month’s rental fees, utility down payments, fees associated with first time home buyers, and moving company expenses. Monetary assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis, with some residents receiving loans with the expectation of repayment and others receiving one-time grants. This program continues the precedent set by all New Ground Programs to assist families and veterans with eventually moving into safe, stable communities and school districts. Homeward Bound @ New Ground also provides social work services including ongoing budgeting and financial counseling on an as needed basis to our program participants.
This program continues the process begun with our residents of creating viable, responsible tenants and homeowners who are self-sufficient, contributing members of our community. Our families and veterans have gained a level of community responsibility demonstrated by their ability to negotiate banking, income and property taxes, and utilization of community resources including libraries, courthouses, and schools.
Homeward Bound @ New Ground is the final step for our families and veterans after many years of hard work and dedication towards achieving their dreams.
