New Ground is thrilled to be sharing our first Good News Story of 2025!
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and single father is set to close on a home in Florida next month, marking a triumphant end to his journey from homelessness to stability.
After assuming custody of his teenage daughter, he became homeless and moved into the Huntington Long-Term Housing Program (LTHP) in February 2022. Soon after, his teenage son joined him, and both children benefited from New Ground’s Reading and Tutoring Program.
Despite facing significant debt and chronic health challenges from his military service, he worked tirelessly to repair his credit, complete higher education coursework, and attend homeownership workshops. He was also approved for a service dog, providing additional support.
Now, he is on the brink of homeownership, having secured the necessary financial and medical arrangements in Florida. His children have also thrived—his daughter, now in college for Culinary Arts, won the NYS culinary competition and may compete internationally, while his son, set to graduate high school in June, has been accepted to Penn State for Criminal Justice.
This veteran’s success highlights the power of perseverance and community support, proving that with determination and the right resources, a brighter future is possible.
Congratulations to this family on their accomplishments during their time in New Ground’s Programs!
