Meet Team New Ground for the 2026 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon!

This year’s Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026! This 13.1-mile journey begins in Brooklyn, making its way through historic landmarks, including the Manhattan Bridge. Runners also get the unique opportunity to run through Times Square (only 1 of 2 times that it is closed each year!) and finish the race in Central Park.

We are so honored to have 5 dedicated individuals to run the 2026 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon for New Ground. These individuals are supporting New Ground by fundraising to break the cycle of homelessness on Long Island. Want to help our runners? Donate to their fundraising pages below!

“I am a New York–based professional, dedicated community advocate, and proud mom of two children (ages 9½ and 7). My family and I live in New York, and I am passionate about mobilizing resources and attention for organizations that deliver practical, lasting impact. My cousin, Matt Pacheco, served two tours in Afghanistan and is a U.S. veteran; spending Christmas with him recently moved me deeply and renewed my commitment to honoring the sacrifices our veterans make for our country. I love running, and training has been a great opportunity to keep pushing myself—so I am training for the United Airlines New York City Half Marathon on March 15, 2026, and running in support of New Ground, a Long Island nonprofit that breaks the cycle of homelessness for Veterans and their families. New Ground’s comprehensive model—spanning employment counseling, financial literacy, educational tutoring, and individualized social work services—helps families build stability and achieve long-term self-sufficiency.

I have committed to raising at least $1,500 by March 1, 2026, to sustain these vital programs and expand their reach. Whether through fundraising, storytelling, or simply showing up, I believe in the power of community to change outcomes for those who have served. I am honored to run on behalf of New Ground and invite others to join me in championing this mission.”

Martha Rizea:Ā Text TeamNGHalf264 to 71777

“My name is Martha Rizea, and I’m incredibly proud and honored to be running the 2026 NYC Half Marathon in support of New Ground.

I was never much of a runner. I was a swimmer my entire life, always drawn to sprinting in the pool rather than distance. About five years ago, I joined Orangetheory Fitness, and that’s where everything changed. What started as a new challenge quickly turned into a true love for running. Endurance running became something I deeply value. It clears my mind, brings me peace, and pushes me in ways I never expected.

I work as an account manager for a Long Island digital marketing agency, where my role is built on advocacy, trust, and consistently showing up for the people I support. Helping tell meaningful stories and drive real results is at the core of what I do, and running in support of New Ground feels like a natural extension of that work. Training for this race requires the same steady effort, long-term commitment, and belief in the outcome, which is why I’m proud to use my voice, platform, and miles to help amplify a mission that truly matters.

I’m running alongside New Ground for our veterans, including my two cousins, both Majors in the United States Army, whose strength, service, and dedication inspire me every day.

Every mile I run is a step toward helping these heroes and their families build a better future. Thank you for joining me on this journey. It’s truly a privilege to sweat for something that matters!”

“Hi! My name is Kelly Koo, and I’m incredibly excited to be running the 2026 NYC Half Marathon with Team New Ground! I have competed in cross-country and track and field throughout all four years of high school, which helped grow my passion for running. Running is a wonderful, inclusive sport that brings communities together which aligns with the support and community of New Ground, Inc.

New Ground, Inc. supports breaking the cycle of homelessness by helping families, veterans, and individuals in need across Long Island. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support their important work.

Thank you so much to everyone who has encouraged and supported my fundraising journey! šŸ’™šŸƒā€ā™€ļø”

Christopher Pecorini:Ā Text TeamNGHalf266 to 71777

“Hi! My name is Chris Pecorini and I am incredibly excited to be running the 2026 NYC Half Marathon for Team New Ground! This will be my first ever Half Marathon so I can’t wait to experience the energy of the crowds and spectators!

Running has always been a part of my life, dating back when I used to run Track and Cross-Country in High School. Even so, I have never run a distance as far as a half marathon so I am excited to challenge myself both physically and mentally.

New Ground Inc is an incredible organization working to break the cycle of homelessness across Long Island. I am honored to be able to help support such an important cause and raise awareness through such a fun event.

A huge thank you to all willing to support New Ground and my fundraising journey. Can’t wait to hit the pavement!”

Tara Marsigliano:Ā Text TeamNGHalf267 to 71777

“Hi my name is Tara Marsigliano I am super excited to be running the NYC Half Marathon this year as a member of Team New Ground! This will be my fourth time running the NYC Half Marathon, my second time running the new iconic course, and will be my 26th half marathon over the course of my running career! I have been able to run this race twice through charity opportunities and it is so rewarding being able to give back.

It was also super fun to gain entry by running the 4 out of 6 program and have a chance to experience those races! While running and fitness are a part of my lifestyle everyday, I practice what I preach by starting each day at my local CrossFit or in my home gym, and then continuing the fitness fun as a Physical Education teacher on Long Island coaching health and wellness to children ages Kindergarten through 8th grade.

I currently reside in Amityville, NY with my Marine Corp veteran husband, Cliff and our fur baby Griffin the Irish doodle. I am so thankful to be able to give back to the men and women who served our country and its freedom! I also want to thank all those that made a donation towards this incredible charitable cause!”

Happy Running!
