“Debra” and her three children became homeless when their apartment was deemed unsafe with no heat or running water. Despite working fulltime as a Certified Nurses Aid, Debra could not afford decent housing for her family. Upon entering the program, she identified education as her way out. With our assistance, Debra became a Licensed Practical Nurse and doubled her earnings. She secured a full and part-time position to cover her basic needs and pay down debts. With her improved credit, she secured a market rent apartment in a good school district. She did not want her children repeating her cycle of homelessness, and made education their priority as well.

While with New Ground, her eldest completed high school with honors, attended a private college on scholarship, and is now a successful CPA and homeowner. Debra’s other two children went on to graduate high school and complete college degrees as well. They are now all employed, housed, and successful – a dream come true for Debra, and another success for New Ground.
